So may sheeple living way beyond their means,
Credit to the limit, celebrity dreams,
Watching TV, eating ice cream,
Judging all the hustlers, prostitutes and fiends,
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t detest these people,
Try not to hate or blame, say we’re all equal,
But the situation’s sticky like treacle,
They huddle under steeples, in mosques and synagogues,
Selling out, swearing, “I aint a sinner,
God knows I’m a winner, God knows I’m a bringer,
Of dinner to my kin and while yours are getting thinner,
We won’t be feeling the cold this winter,
Or the drought next summer, oh what a bummer,
For those who are needy, hungry and slummers,
But I can’t help you from the comfort of my hummer,
An abundance of intrinsic apathy’s to blame,
I don’t mean to preach but I have to maintain,
Society plays its own part in a game,
That regularly sees innocent people slain,
All for the sake of some capital gain.
Wake up! Maybe we can make the change,
We’re slaves on a ship, talking ‘bout who got the flyest chain,
Kweli said it with some thoughtful disdain,
Now it’s time to train your thoughts, you know what I’m saying!

Ignorance and laziness is no excuse,
Generally we’re blissfully unaware of the truth,
If history’s a fair show of system abuse, which it is,
I think we must unite like troops,
Or forget it, allow the effort,
Can’t respect that way of being,
As much as one who doesn’t get it,
But knows it aint right, is down for the cause,
And won’t stop fighting until we change laws.

Lethargy / apathy, get to me, it has to be,
Said in my opinion or I’m letting them,
Batter me into submission,
Weakening my own position with the words I spit,
Unless I’m on the mic, so my mission,
I is to keep my mouth shut and my head ducked,
Keep my thoughts to myself,
Stay away from the crooks,
Not give too much credit,
To muppets who get stuck on the looks,
But never picked up a book,
The telly celebrities,
Stuffing people’s heads with breeze,
They call it entertainment,
But I’m telling you it’s dead to me,
No I won’t let it be,
The crux of the matter is,
Inescapably apparent all the time,
That’s why I like to rhyme,
It’s a little way to resist,
Without committing crime,
And I really am trying,
To elevate myself, everyday,
Efforts mostly go into attempting not to hate myself,
Man hands on misery to man,
It deepens like a coastal shelf,
While fools in old school hats and coats,
Feed off of falsifying wealth,
We gratify ourselves at the cost of others,
Enemies, friends, lovers, sisters and brothers,
You can’t hide away forever under your covers,
Or bury yourself in the bosom of your mother,
For eternity, your fraternity won’t save you,
From reality on the day they engrave you.
